Why some no-account swaps still ask for an email

Some no-account swap sites ask for an email address to send a receipt or a status link, not to create an account or verify your identity. The email request is a convenience feature, not a registration requirement.

The practical reason

When you swap crypto without an account, the site has no persistent way to contact you if something goes wrong. A typical swap involves sending coins to the exchanger, waiting for confirmations, and then receiving the swapped coins back. If a transaction stalls, gets stuck with low fees, or hits a network delay, the site has no way to notify you - unless it has an email.

The email lets the site send: - A clickable link to check swap status without logging in. - Notification of any required action, like a refund due to insufficient liquidity. - A basic receipt showing the exchange rate and transaction IDs.

How it differs from account registration

A real account requires a password, often 2FA, and ties your history to a user database. An email-only request does none of that. The site does not store the email alongside your swap details indefinitely; many delete it after the swap completes or hash it before storage. You do not create credentials, and you cannot log back in later to see your past swaps.

Most sites that ask for an email also offer a "skip" or "continue without email" button. If you skip, you might get a short URL generated on screen instead, which you must save yourself. That URL does the same job - showing status - but it is your responsibility not to lose it.

The privacy trade-off

Giving an email introduces a trace. Even if the site says it does not store emails, the email itself is a personal identifier. A subpoena or a breach could link that address to a swap timestamp, approximate amount, and the destination address you sent from. For many users, that is acceptable. For others, it is a reason to skip the field.

Some sites use the email for marketing, which is a separate concern. The page where you enter it usually has a small checkbox for newsletters. Unchecking it stops that, but the email still exists in the system for the swap's duration.

What the site actually sees

Even without an email, the exchanger sees your IP address, your browser fingerprint (if you allow JavaScript), and the public addresses involved in the swap. The email does not add much to what a determined observer could already learn. It mainly adds convenience for you and a customer-service handle for the site.

The better question: do you need to give it?

If you want the assurance that the site can contact you, and you are comfortable linking that email to the swap, fill it in. If you prefer maximum separation, skip it and copy the status URL. Do not assume that omitting the email makes the swap anonymous - the other identifiers remain.
